Alameda Municipal Power announced today that it will hold a meeting later this month to provide a status update on the Underground District #31 project for the Webster St. area. There are a number of upcoming events in Alameda that residents may be interested in, from updates on the Webster Street district undergrounding effort, to a citizen-sponsored meeting with Alameda City Manager John Russo. Alameda Municipal Power will give an update to the public and the Public Utilities Board on Underground Utility District #31 On October 17th, at 7:00 p.m. at Alameda City Hall Council Chambers. The district covers the area along Webster Street and nearby addresses on cross streets. Next Monday, at 7:00 p.m., the Alameda Public Utilities Board will receive an informational report from Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) staff on the history of efforts in Alameda to move overhead aerial electrical utility wires to underground structures, known as “undergrounding,” and on the status of underground utility district number 31, the current effort to underground aerial utility wires along Webster Street and on intersecting avenues. Alameda residents living near Webster Street are upset at being compelled by the City of Alameda’s electric utility, Alameda Municipal Power, to spend roughly $5,000 to convert their utility service from overhead to underground delivery to support what they call a “Webster Street beautification project.” |
